UFW Foundation Condemns Federal Court Decision Striking Down Parole in Place Program
Washington, D.C. — On November 7, 2024, a federal district judge ruled the Biden Administration's effort to provide parole status to undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens was unlawful. The Biden Administration’s “Keeping Families Together” program would have ensured that more than 500,000 spouses and 50,000 children can remain in the U.S. and would keep families together without fear of deportation.
The UFW Foundation currently provides access to free to low-cost immigration services to people in California and urges those seeking additional forms of legal relief to avoid deceptive practices from individuals who are not licensed attorneys or accredited by the Department of Justice claiming to be legal representatives and notaries.
Erica Lomeli Corcoran, UFW Foundation’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, said:
“We are deeply disappointed by the ruling from an individual who is overreaching and overstepping their authority. Just like the court did with DACA, hundreds of thousands of people throughout the country who desperately need legal status and who wish to remain with their families here in the United States have had their hope stolen away from them. We urge those affected to seek additional forms of relief. With every victory comes defeat, but this will not stop us from seeking justice and furthering our cause. We will continue to work to ensure that there is a clear path to residency and ultimately legalization. We will not be deterred by the courts, but rather we will stand proud for our communities until immigrants all over the country can live without need, without want, and without fear”
