Delano, Calif.—To commemorate the birth and legacy of civil rights and labor leader Cesar Chavez, the UFW Foundation participated in a number of marches and actions this month upholding our support for farm worker and immigrant communities throughout the country.

Along with partner organizations, the UFW Foundation hosted a march and resource fair at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, California, and worked with student groups at Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University, Washington State University in Pullman, and Georgia Gwinnett College to organize marches and resource fairs on their campuses. The month of activities culminated on Cesar Chavez Day with a march in support of farm workers and immigrants organized by labor organizations such as the United Farm Workers, SEIU California, and the California Federation of Labor Unions.

Erica Lomeli Corcoran, UFW Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

“Today we honor Cesar Chavez’s legacy which has inspired countless of people across the country to engage in advocating for farm worker and immigrant rights. Our organization remains committed to carrying forward his dedication of advocating for farm workers, immigrants, and civil rights.

Now more than ever, we need to follow the teachings and examples set by Chavez. We must come together and continue to speak up against injustice, against mass deportations of farm workers and undocumented immigrants, and push back against the oppression. We can achieve more together than we can separately. Si Se Puede!”
