Fires Impact Farm Worker Health

Fire smoke impacts the health of farm workers. Employers are required to provide protective equipment, such as masks, and take other safety measures. In order to filter out fine particles, respirators must be labeled N-95, N-99, N-100, R-95, P-95, P-99, or P-100, and must be labeled as approved by the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). If California employers with outdoor workers fail to take precautionary steps, a complaint can be filed confidentially with OSHA. We are able to help with this process - call the UFW Foundation at 877-881-8281. Find the protections for outdoor workers here -

We are also preparing for a holiday event at our Oxnard office to provide gifts to farm worker families who've been impacted by the Thomas and Hill fires in Ventura County over the last year. The following donations would be much appreciated: new toys, toiletries, diapers, non-perishable and dry foods (beans, rice, tomato sauce, cooking oil, etc), grocery store gift cards and visa gift cards. Mask donations are also welcome!

Donations can be dropped off at the UFW Foundation's office in Oxnard:
