On July 26th, 2019 the Trump Administration published proposed changes to the H-2A guest worker program, which is an agricultural guest worker program that allows for immigrant workers to temporarily enter the US to perform seasonal agricultural jobs.
However, the proposed changes by the Trump Administration would make it easier to deny jobs to our nation's current farm workers so employers can hire more temporary foreign field laborers and pay them LESS. These proposed changes will depress pay and reduce existing protections for both domestic and foreign workers. The federal government indicates more than half of farm workers are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents; the proposed changes would negatively impact most of these farm workers.
